Vegas Baby!

Vegas Baby!

Unfortunately I am VERY behind on my blogging!!  But we just came back from vacation and some much needed rest and relaxation.

On very short notice we decided to head to one of our favourite places…..Vegas!  While a lot of people probably think that all there is to do is drink and gamble, they couldn’t be farther from the truth!  We have been to Vegas several times (actually surprising ourselves with how many times when we thought back on it!) and we have done something new every visit.

This time a few of the spots we headed to were Red Rock Canyon, the Lion Habitat Ranch, and a car junkyard that we toured on our way to Hackberry, AZ.

The Red Rock Canyon is only 15 miles from the strip and is a 13 mile scenic loop that we just drove along and stopped to get out at various spots along the way.  There are also several hikes and climbs you can also do, but due to the climate this time of year, we just did the drive this time around.  The view from the visitors centre was perfect for my first panoramic shoot:

I highly recommend a visit to the Lion Habitat Ranch.  This is where the “MGM Lions” were cared for and housed and they were trucked in every day to the hotel, but now that MGM has decided to no longer have the lions at the hotel, they are trying to make the ranch a tourist destination in order to continue to fund the care of the lions.

During our visit there were approximately 40 lions with 7 of them 4-month old cubs.  The staff is obviously beyond dedicated and very knowledgeable and are more than willing to answer any of your questions.  It was amazing to see their interaction with these beautiful animals.

One of the other discoveries that we have made about the Vegas/Arizona area is that it is full of old cars!  We finally stopped at this junkyard that we have passed several times on our visits.  We were able to take a tour and do some shooting.

  • Great pictures.

I’ve only been to Vegas once and didn’t leave the city. Sure would love to go back and explore.

  • Thanks! It is a fabulous area….we even rode out to Hollywood from there once. It’s only 4 hours away! Renting a car down there is pretty cheap too so totally worth doing.
